The practical detail.

Nearest year-round dog beach
Gwithian, a short drive towards Godrevy, is a vast year-round dog beach — the reliable option when Portreath and the nearer beaches restrict dogs in summer.
Nearest big beach
Portreath and the north-coast beaches are a short drive; many carry summer dog restrictions, so check the specific beach before you go.
Walk from the door
Tehidy Country Park’s woodland trails — the largest woodland in west Cornwall — are nearby: easy, sheltered walking whatever the weather.
Dogs welcome
Up to two dogs, by arrangement with the owner — with a fully enclosed, genuinely secure garden, worth knowing if you need escape-proof outdoor space.

A guide only, and accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of writing. Beach dog restrictions, distances and local facilities change — and seasonal beach bans are set locally and reviewed each year — so please confirm the current details directly before you travel.

A short guide to Portreath, Hayle and the west Cornish coast.

Portreath is a small beach village three miles from the property with a well-regarded surf beach at the foot of steep cliffs. Dogs are welcome on Portreath beach outside summer restrictions. Gwithian (five miles) and Porthtowan (four miles) are alternatives along the same stretch of north coast — all with Atlantic surf and long walks possible along the cliff paths between them.

Hayle's beaches — Gwithian Towans and Hayle Towans — are part of a three-mile stretch of sand at the mouth of the Hayle estuary. The Times voted them the best in the UK in 2024. Dogs are welcome, and the beach is wide enough to feel uncrowded even in summer.

Tehidy Country Park is two miles — a dog-friendly woodland park with a café and miles of walking on flat ground, ideal for dogs or people who need a quieter day. St Ives, fourteen miles south, is worth a day. St Michael's Mount at Marazion is twelve miles for a tidal causeway crossing at low tide. Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary, with its free-flying bird shows, is twelve miles.

The Tehidy House has a sister property nearby. If you're a larger group, it can be booked alongside to accommodate more people — contact us and we can help coordinate.
